Welcome to Isabelle and Lily, two new Junior Choristers as of today. We are looking forward to making music with you. Today, after theory, the Junior Choristers warmed up with our Turkeys United song. The 8 choristers who rehearsed the piece at our weekend retreat were able to lead the others in a three part canon! Really well done! We spent most of the class reviewing our second piece in A Medieval Bestiary - Griffin. It is a tricky piece in two parts. The Preps and Main Chorus will be joining us in this movement for the December concert. Adam Mason reviewed the Dance of the Crickets that we practiced at the Jackson Point retreat. It looks really good! Lots of hopping and dancing crickets! Today Adam gave each chorister sticks to keep the beat as they moved and also to make cricket sounds. Please, please, please bring both your theory book and your music each week. It is essential to have these so that we can take full advantage of our short hour together. Thank you for your continued great work!

Great work today! Here are a few points to ponder:
Be Prepared: Please remember both your theory book and your music every Monday. This is your responsibility. If you are arriving for practice from school, make sure that your theory book and music are packed with your morning things. As I reminded you, I pack everything the night before and leave it at my front door. That way I know I have the essential things for the day. Thank you to the choristers who had everything ready today.
Theory: Stapled to the inside cover of your theory book, you will find your assigned theory pages and due dates. You are at different levels and this is fine. We will start with theory at the beginning of each rehearsal. What isn't completed is your homework. Tyler will correct your finished work while we continue with choir.
Pencils: Please remember a pencil so that you can pencil in important cues in your music.
You sound fantastic: Today we practiced consonants on endings of words. We also practiced getting louder and softer to make a musical phrase. Remember to hold your music up. Sing to me, not to the floor. Please review what we did so that we can move ahead next week. We will sing "Crickets" for memory next week!
Camp meeting - next Monday - after choir - 6 pm - in the gym
Keep singing!

Whew! I can't believe we did so much in 60 minutes.
1. Adam Mason, who will be doing Orff and movement activities, started off choir with a name game. Moving forward, he will visit us once a month. At the October retreat, we will get to do more activities with Adam.
2. Each week we will start with work in the theory books. The choristers are at different levels. They were each assigned work to do - one page each. This is due by next rehearsal. They need to bring their theory books each week.
3. Crickets - For practice, please review the text, especially the rolled r's and the endings of words. Choristers should be able to sing the last two pages. "Rikiki" should be memorized - we reviewed this in class. Remember breath comes from the belly and not the shoulders.
4. Griffin - Celeste started this with the choir today. It is in two parts. We will be learning both parts. The Prep choir will also be singing the top line. For review, please review text - we will review the melody next week.
In the next few weeks, we will also be looking at Turkeys United, Blue Skies, and Chili Caliente. The choir will receive this music next week.
Have a great week!
